Loss of a control over the production processes and production of defects are big sources of waste.  The defects must be repaired or thrown away. JIDOKA is the method used to prevent this type of waste. According to this method the production process stops right after the detection of any kind of abnormality. If an operator makes a mistake or some defect product is made at the production line, after the detection the process is immediately stopped and its restart is possible only after fixing the problem.

From the production point of view JIDOKA allows a prompt reaction to a problem by making the decision to stop and fix problems as they occur rather than pushing them down the line to be resolved later.
